Today we compare three of the best Android based smartphones that HTC has to offer. We are talking about the HTC One family of smartphones that was recently completed with the unveiling of the HTC One Max.
HTC might have plans to add more members to this family, but for now, the trio has to do the job. So let us compare the HTC One Mini, HTC One and the HTC One Max in an attempt to find out the differences between them, where they stand in the market today and which once would be the perfect option for you.
HTC One Mini
HTC One Max
The HTC One Mini has a 4.3-inch Super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display. The device has a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with a pixel density of 342 ppi (pixel per inch). The display on the HTC One Mini is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The HTC One, which is current flagship device of the company has a 4.7-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen display. The One has a full HD screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density of 469 ppi. The display on the HTC One is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
Lastly, the HTC One Max, the biggest member of the HTC One family has a screen size of 5.9-inches. The display on the device is also Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen, and has a full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density of 373 ppi. The display on the HTC One is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
The HTC One Mini is equipped with the Qualcomm snapdragon 400 chipset. The device is powered by a 1.4GHz Krait 300 dual-core processor, Adreno 305 GPU and has 1GB of RAM.
The HTC One is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset. The HTC One has a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM.
The HTC One Max is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset. The HTC One Max has a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM.
The HTC One and One Max are the flagship smartphone and phablet offered by the company. But in spite of being the best from HTC, none of these smart devices have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. As a result, the devices already fall behind in terms of performance and are considered by consumers to not be up-to-date!
The HTC One Mini runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box and comes with one of the latest versions of HTC Sense UI. The device has not received any OS update yet, and the chances of an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update are less.
The HTC One runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean by default. Since this smartphone was launched before the HTC One Mini and One Max, it falls behind in terms of OS version. But the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is almost confirmed and will be coming out soon, so no need to worry about this problem any more.
Lastly, we have the HTC One Max, the recently unveiled phablet. Since the phablet was announced just a few days ago, it runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right out of the box and comes with the latest version of HTC Sense UI, Sense UI 5.5.
The HTC One Mini comes with 16GB of internal storage out of which a smaller percentage will already be occupied by the operating system. The device does not have a microSD card slot, so storage expansion is not an option.
The HTC One comes with high capacity internal storage options of 32 and 64GB. But similar to the One Mini, the HTC One does not have a microSD card slot, so storage expansion is not available here as well.
Finally we have the HTC One Max. The HTC One Max comes with internal storage options of 16GB and 32GB only. But unlike the above two devices, the One Max actually comes equipped with a microSD card slot. Hence consumers can expand storage by up to 64GB as and when they wish.
The HTC One Mini, HTC One and One Max all have the 4 Ultrapixel camera that was introduced by HTC when the company unveiled the HTC One flagship device.
The 4 ultrapixel camera present on these devices has a sensor size of 1/3″ and pixel size of 2um. The camera on each of these devices provides support for standard features like geo-tagging, face detection and smile detection etc.
But only HTC One has the optical image stabilization feature that makes the device stand out. You also have the option to simultaneously record HD video and images, but this feature is only available on the HTC One and One Max. So in a way, the HTC One Mini gets third place whereas the HTC One gets first place here!
The HTC One and One Max both have a 2.1MP front facing camera whereas the One Mini has a 1.6MP front facing camera.
The HTC One Mini has a decent non-removable 1800mAh Li-Po battery. The battery is expected to provide talk times up to 20 hours on 2G and 13 hours on 3G. You can also expect a standby time of 500 hours on 2G and about 700 hours on 3G.
The HTC One has a slightly bigger battery compared to the One Mini, non-removable 1800mAh Li-Po. With this battery, the HTC One provides up to 27 hours of talk time on 2G and 18 hours of talk time on 3G. The device gives a standby time of around 500 hours on 2G and 3G.
The HTC One Max has the biggest battery in the HTC One family of devices. The phablet is equipped with a huge 3200mAh non-removable Li-Po battery. You can expect talk times of up 25 hours and standby times up to 600 hours on 2G and 3G.
The dimensions of the HTC One Mini are 132 x 63.2 x 9.3 mm; the dimensions of the HTC One are 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm and the dimensions of the HTC One Max are 164.5 x 82.5 x 10.3 mm.
The HTC One Mini weighs 122 grams; the HTC One weighs 143 grams and the HTC One Max weighs 217 grams.
The HTC One family has definitely proved to be impressive, but really not so desirable in the market today. We do not want to hurt any HTC fan out there, but there are a number of points indicating that the HTC One Mini, HTC One and the HTC One Max are not the best of devices available in the market today.
To start with, each of these smart devices has a thickness of over 9mm and are quite heavy as well. When compared to other smartphones in the same range, the devices do not even have an equally powerful chipset! Almost every new flagship smartphone and phablet unveiled in the market comes equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset.
But all in all, if you are an HTC fan and have decided to choose between any of these three devices, then our conclusion will definitely be helpful for you.
If you want a smartphone that will fit right into your hands and slip into your pocket without any problem, then the HTC One Mini is the perfect option. But if you want a lot of power and performance on the way, then the HTC One will give you that extra push! But if you want a smartphone that’s really big and has a great battery, then the HTC One Max is the perfect option.
Out of these three listed devices, the HTC One has a superfast chipset, has the best camera that HTC has to offer, that too with optical image stabilization. But you will have to be careful about the battery every now and then, because it won’t last that long.
But if screen size is not an issue, meaning that you are okay with a large display smartphone, then the HTC One Max will prove to be a very good option. It has all the goodness of the HTC One, but at the same time offers you a much better battery and a fingerprint sensor on the back. Using this sensor, you will be able to enable an entirely new level of security on your smartphone. You will be able to say goodbye to remembering passwords.
