Laptop Review – HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook

Choosing one laptop among the number of available units in the market is hard – especially if you are someone who does not know a lot about electronic devices. The HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook is one of these units and we can say that it really stands out from the crowd. Essentially, it showcases most of the basic functions of a laptop with some slight configurations that make it more unique on its own. This review will tell you more that you need to know about it and help you decide more easily.

Laptop Review - HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook

Physical Design And Structure

The HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook measures 12.75 x 8.66 x 0.59 inches and weighs 3.2 lbs. As you can see, this laptop is only less than an inch thick which means that it is very easy and light to carry in different places. It sports 13.3 inches of screen size which exhibits an LED backlight and 1920 x 1080 pixels of resolution. It also has an HD technology which maximizes every single part of the screen and offers a different viewing experience to the users. Aesthetically, this ultrabook has a smooth and shiny chassis which looked very premium and high-end.

Hardware, Software And Storage

Laptop Review - HP Spectre 13 UltrabookIn terms of the hardware selection, the HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook contains an Intel Core i5-4200U central processing unit with 1.6 GHz. It has an integrated Intel HD Graphics for the GPU which supports graphically demanding tasks like playing games or running other software. Meanwhile, the RAM comes in 2 GB while the hard disk has a full 128 GB of internal storage. If this is still not enough, users can use Box, a third-party client which is just like SkyDrive, which will provide an additional 50 GB for free. On the other hand, the Spectre 13 is supported by the Windows 8 operating system. The Beats Audio is also integrated to up-keep the sound output.

What Needs To Be Improved

Of course, nothing is perfect and the HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook also needs a few things to improve on. First of all, its web camera is not very decent. Functional for video chatting online, HP should have incorporated a higher quality than the VGA. Aside from this, the Spectre 13 only supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is not GPS navigation when we compared it to the Sony Chromebook 11.

The HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook has a starting price of $999 on HP’s official online store. If this is expensive for some people, then they should find a more affordable device that they can buy. But for the financially stable, this laptop offers some good quality features which can be worth considering.

What do you think of the HP Spectre 13?

Worst review I have ever read…
    – The image is not even of the new Spectre 13 Ultrabook
    – Thank you for stating that if its too expensive then rather buy a cheaper ultrabook… profound,
    – The device comes with 100G of cloud storage… not 50
    – The review doesn’t even mention the HP’s most unique feature which is the tailor made windows 8 control zone trackpad
    – There are 2 USB 3 ports… not one

    Hi Jaycee,

I’m glad to see that you have changed the top image to show the correct device. However please note that the second image is still wrong and shows an old Spectre model without the control zone trackpad. Thank you for the link…. HP were originally offering 100G of cloud storage but must have changed this – my mistake & please accept my apologies for that.

The reason I am being critical is because there are almost no reviews of this device on the net (other than Sep 19th demo model reviews). I was therefore excited to see a recent review and was expecting more. However as you mentioned above you haven’t even seen the device and simply got the specs off HP’s site which anyone could have done. Not only does this review leave out the devices biggest selling point, the patented HP control zone trackpad, but the images you used weren’t even of the ultrabook you were reviewing.

Hi Ellen – No issues at all. Besides, I like that you’re giving your constructive feedback. That’s the only way we can improve our gadget news and reviews here at the Online Gadget Store. I changed the image in the body of the content, too. I must admit that this is just a quick review and it does not contain all the major and minor ‘stuff’ one needs to know. Also, it’s not a review, if you don’t even have the machine.
