In the second half of 2013, specifically in the third quarter, China’s mobile phone market ranked Apple Inc in fifth place among its best sellers. After including Asia as one of the continents where it will release the latest iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C handsets, Apple even surpassed native corporations like the ZTE and Xiaomi in the said country. In the second quarter of 2013, the gadget brand was only on the seventh place which means that there was a huge and significant increase of market share that happened in between. According to Nicole Peng, the research director of Canalys which is a research organization, Apple’s 5 percent share before increased by one point to 6 percent in total.
Samsung Versus Apple
On the other hand, it is the Samsung Electronics which is gaining a lot of attention today after being compared with the Apple Inc. The other information given by Peng is that Samsung gained twice the number of their previous market share which means that it now has 21 percent in its name – as one of the worldwide brands of smartphone and other devices.
After Apple released their two latest iPhone handsets in the United States, it took around three months before the company released it in China. Tech experts are saying that this is their marketing strategy in gaining more customers in the worldwide market and increasing its drooping shares. Peng elaborated that the reason why Apple Inc moved up the scale is because the launch of the iPhone 5S and 5C in China created a big impact on its customers. However, maintaining the company’s place on top and even moving forward might be a little challenging from now on.
It was on September 20 when Apple Inc started selling the iPhone 5S and 5C in China and its increase in market share only reveals one week of the sale period. Compared to last year, Apple’s shares dropped at 8 percent while Samsung’s increased at 14 percent from 2012.
Other Smartphone Brands
While the Apple Inc moved a few places on top, other brands such as Lenovo was able to maintain its rank in second place after determining a similar market share as before. Although the company’s shipments increased to 64 percent, the market share remained 13 percent. After Lenovo’s place is the China Wireless with an 85 percent increase in shipment and 11 percent market share. Garnering the fourth spot is Huawei which also remained on its 9 percent market share even though it gained 65 percent in terms of its shipments. Meanwhile, the biggest jump on the ranks was made by Xiaomi after it earned triple of its usual shipment earnings. Now, the company is in the sixth place. Unfortunately, on the seventh place is ZTE which currently lost half of its market share with only 5 percent in total.
