Smartphone Quick Review – Verykool RS90 Vortex

If ruggedness is the basis, the Verykool RS90 Vortex would definitely do well. As a durable mobile phone, the Vortex is all dust-proof, shock-proof and water-resistant. However, durability is just one side of the story. Take a look inside the Vortex and you may be disappointed that it only has a few special features. According to Verykool, this is the sturdiest phone among its family but we beg to differ. Apparently, the only thing that sells this is its inexpensive $279.99 price on Amazon even without a contract. The following review will provide you with more information.

The Advantages

The Verykool RS90 Vortex is only a mid-range mobile phone but we admit that it also has a few features to offer. The first one, like we already mentioned, is its durability. In terms of its water-resistant abilities, the Vortex can last for 30 minutes under water at 1-meter deep. On the other hand, this mobile phone also has 4.5 inches of diagonal screen size which comes even larger than some of its competition. Hardware-wise, the Vortex contains 512 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal storage. If this is too small for you, you can buy a MicroSD card with a maximum size of 32 GB and plug it in for more space. Other than the memory card slot, the Vortex also supports a headphone jack and USB 2.0 port. The screen displays 540 x 960 pixels of resolution while the 1800 mAh battery capacity can last up to 9 hours of talk time.

The Disadvantages

Smartphone Quick Review - Verykool RS90 VortexUnfortunately, Verykool RS90 Vortex has a pretty outdated operating system. The Android 4.0 – which was a 2011 version – just seems a little out of trend these days and we could definitely do with something better at an almost similar price. Aside from this, the Vortex’s camera is also not that high quality. Even though it appears to have 5 megapixels on paper, the resulting images look drained and washed – especially when used outdoors. The application took only a few seconds to open but focusing takes a little time. It’s also easy to blur the shots even with the slightest movement. Finally, the Vortex only supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and not LTE connectivity.

The Bottom Line

For an unlocked version that costs $279.99, the Verykool RS90 Vortex is a reasonable handset. It is the perfect device to bring to the beach which is only appropriate since Verykool is actually based in California. However, if you are a consumer who is looking for high-end devices with the latest operating system and wider connectivity, the Vortex is not for you.

What do you think of the Verykool RS90 Vortex?

Like mine a lot. I have dropped it several times. No problem. No complaints.
