We have great news for Motorola fans and consumers who have been holding on to their smartphones, waiting for the Android 4.4 KitKat update to be made available. Motorola has announced that the company will be rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat firmware update for 10 of its smartphones!
We all know that Motorola is owned by Google, but in spite of this fact, the company had not made any special announcements about the Android 4.4 KitKat. But now everything has changed as Motorola finally gave out important details about the Android 4.4 KitKat update for a number of its smartphones.
On its support website, Motorola mentioned that 10 of its smartphones will be getting the KitKat update next year. The good news is that the list also some of the older Motorola smartphones like the DROID RAZR M and DROID RAZR HD as well. Even though the Motorola Moto X might be the only smartphone that is getting the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade right now, a number of Motorola made smartphones will follow soon.
So yes, the standard Motorola Moto X as well as the Motorola Moto X Developer Edition will be getting (you might already have upgraded your Moto X by now) Android 4.4 KitKat right away. Verizon Wireless has already started rolling out the update whereas AT&T has started the roll out recently. Other carriers will also start offering the firmware update before the end of this month.
But as already mentioned, Motorola will be rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat for a number of smartphones, and many of the names listed below will take you by surprise. So without beating round the bush anymore, we present the list to you right here. Go ahead and take a look (we would have loved to see your surprised faces):
- Motorola Moto X
- Motorola Moto X Developer Edition
- Motorola Electrify M (US Cellular)
- Motorola ATRIX HD (AT&T)
- Motorola DROID Ultra (Verizon Wireless)
- Motorola DROID Maxx (Verizon Wireless)
- Motorola DROID Mini (Verizon Wireless)
- Motorola DROID RAZR HD (Verizon Wireless)
- Motorola DROID RAZR Maxx HD (Verizon Wireless)
- Motorola DROID RAZR M (Verizon Wireless)
We hope you were happy with the list, but there is one point we need to clear out. The smartphones mentioned above will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update, but it is not necessary that their developer editions also get the latest update.
For instance, even though Motorola will be rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat for the Motorola ATRIX HD, the developer edition of ATRIX HD will not be getting the update. Whereas on the other hand, developer editions of the Motorola RAZR HD and RAZR M will be getting Android 4.4 KitKat sometime in the near future.
Motorola has not given out detailed information about the time line for the updates, but we know that the updates are coming! And secondly, if you happen to have an older Motorola smartphone (even those that might not be eligible for Android 4.4 KitKat update), you can exchange it for a better model. We suggest you check out the Motorola Trade Up program that allows you to return your old Motorola handset and gives you a $100 rebate on a new Motorola handset that runs on Android Jelly Bean (and will be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat later).
