A few days ago, leaked image of what seems to be the metal frame for the Samsung Galaxy S5 was spotted on the Internet. This frame image has interested a number of consumers but at the same time has also raised a lot of questions and doubts.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be the next-gen flagship smartphone from Samsung. The smartphone is expected to feature the company’s first-ever true octa-core chipset and will bring along a lot of new specs and features.
As of now, there have been reports saying that the standard version of Samsung Galaxy S5 will be dustproof and water-resistant by default. We do not know about the exact IP certification standard that will be followed, but we can tell you that Samsung plans to follow Sony’s footsteps when it comes to smartphone design (in terms of making them all dustproof and water-resistant). So if this rumor is true, there will be no ‘Active version’ of the Galaxy S5 because we won’t really need one.
Now we have another speculation about the upcoming flagship device which indicates that the smartphone will have a bigger screen size. To be more specific, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be bigger than the Galaxy S4 but still smaller than the Galaxy Note 3 when it comes to screen size! As far as thickness is concerned, we believe that the Galaxy S5 will definitely surprise us. We are quite sure that Samsung will make use of the new IGZO technology that will allow the company to use a very thin film of glass for display. Hence we will either get to see a reduced thickness or better capacity battery if Samsung wants to maintain the 7.9 mm thickness.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 frame measures 136.6 x 69.8 mm whereas the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 frame measures 151.2 x 79.2 mm. But the so-called Samsung Galaxy S5 frame measures 143.8 x 72.3 mm. So this clearly indicates that the Samsung flagship smartphone will break the 5-inch barrier and maybe even match the display size of the Galaxy Note 2 (5.5-inch).
The frame dimensions make us believe that the Galaxy S5 might have a screen size of around 5.5-inches. But this also means that there will hardly be any difference between the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (or even the Note 4 for that matter). Samsung has always kept a decent distance between its smartphones and phablets, and the only difference between them has been screen size! So technically speaking, we find it hard that the metal frame spotted on the Internet belongs to the Galaxy S5.
Another problem is that the button placements have also been swapped. If the primary camera is to be placed on the top right side (when you are holding the phone and facing the screen), then the frame clearly shows us the placement of hardware buttons as well. The volume keys will be placed on the right side whereas the power button will be placed on the left side. This is exactly the opposite of what happens in the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S3.
Time for some salt
We tried to point out some of the faults in the frame, but we do not want to get into the details. You might be able to spot a number of other differences (do let us know), but the end results would still be the same. We strongly believe that this frame might not be related to the Samsung Galaxy S5, hence suggest you to take all this with a pinch of salt.
