Qualcomm has started to reveal its updated processor roadmap for the next year. First it announced its top of the line Snapdragon 805, which will target the premium segment. And today, they have revealed their plans for the mid-range segment by announcing the Snapdragon 410, which is touted as a successor to the popular Snapdragon 400 series.
Four ARM Cortex A53 cores will power the Snapdragon 410 chipset. Cortex A53 is touted as the successor to the Cortex A5/A7 lineup and will be substantially faster than the chipset it replaces. One of the most important update it brings to the table is support for the 64-bit ARMv8 chipset. This is in addition to improved GPU capabilities in its arsenal. The Snapdragon 410 chipset is manufactured on the 28nm process technology.
Technically speaking, the graphical capabilities of the chipset are handled by the Adreno 306 GPU, which should bring pretty respectable gaming performance. The chipset is also capable of 1080p video playback and supports up to a 13 MP camera.
Interestingly, 4G LTE connectivity is also baked into the Snapdragon 410 chipset with support for dual and even triple SIMs! 4G support will really garner a lot of attention from smartphone manufacturers.
On the connectivity front, it has an impressively long list of features. It supports the common stuff such as WiFi, Bluetooth, FM radio, NFC and GPS. However, Russia’s GLONASS and even China’s BeiDou system is supported.
Jeff Lorbeck, senior vice president and chief operating officer, Qualcomm Technologies, China said in a statement that,
We are excited to bring 4G LTE to highly affordable smartphones at a sub $150 ( ̴ 1,000 RMB) price point with the introduction of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. The Snapdragon 410 chipset will also be the first of many 64-bit capable processors as Qualcomm Technologies helps lead the transition of the mobile ecosystem to 64-bit processing.
The smartphone wars are getting hotter and hotter as the processing power under the hood gets better and better with each passing day. With the kind of features and performance the Snapdragon 410 chipset brings to the mid-range smartphone line, we are really excited about the smartphones that will be powered by it.
