So consumers should know that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware update is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S4 GPe.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat is the latest version of Android OS in the entire world, and Google Play devices are few of the lucky ones to get the update at early stages. This new update brings a number of improvements to the Samsung Galaxy S4, and most of them are on the inside i.e. the software. One of the most important fixes in this new update is the Android KitKat SMS hack that has been causing problems since some time now.

So if you own a Google Play Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4, model number GT-I9505G, then now is the time to get the update! If you have not received the update notification or have not downloaded and installed the new firmware, we strongly suggest that you do so. You can also manually check for the firmware update by going to Settings -> About Device -> Software Update.

And if you haven’t got the update yet, you also need to know that you won’t have to wait too long for the update to get downloaded. The total file size is just 57.5 MB and is available over the air. So next time, when you go for your coffee break or aren’t using your phone for a minute or two, simply get the update and upgrade your device to the latest firmware. Consumers should also note that this update will change your firmware version to I9505GUEUCML4. So just in case you are not sure if you have got the update correctly, you can cross check the firmware number.

Apart from the critical SMS hack problem, a number of other problems and bugs have been fixed in the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. There are a number of security enhancements as well, but no new features have been added as such. This update was more of a fix rather than a bonus.
