We finally have some good news for consumers who invested their money and faith in some of the high-end smart devices from Sony. The Japanese smart devices manufacturer has started rolling out the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware update for the Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra.
Even though the world has started talking about Android 4.4 KitKat and Google has already rolled out two firmware updates of the same, Sony consumers will have to be happy with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. So if you did not get it right the first time, here’s the big news again – Sony has started rolling out the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware update for the Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, not Android 4.4 KitKat.
We don’t want to blame Sony for being so late with the firmware update because we know that there is a lot of work and efforts involved in the firmware upgrade process. And we suggest that Sony consumers should take the firmware update and look forward to the latest firmware update sometime in Q1 of 2014.
Now let’s check out the good part! The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware update brings lot of new features and improvements to these Xperia smart devices. This update brings all the new features and changes that Google introduced in Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but you will also get a number of enhancements that have been made by Sony. So if you are a fan of Sony’s UI and the features they provide, you’re in for a surprise, but if you don’t like it as much then simply ignore it for now. You can also apply a custom launcher like ADW launcher or NOVA launcher to try and customize your homescreen and basic UI.
With this new update, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra gets the Smart Social Camera that was previously available only on the Sony Xperia Z1. Apart from this, both the devices get a number of common improvements and updated version of stock apps. These include Walkman, Messaging, Track ID, MyXperia and more.
Sony has also introduced Xperia Themes, a new feature that will let you download UI packs and customize your smart devices. So if you are uncomfortable with trying out a custom launcher, this would be the best option for you. We are not sure how good this feature might feel to you, but you can definitely give it a try.
Sony has already started rolling out the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, but the roll out will be gradual as usual. So even if you haven’t got the update notification, we suggest that you wait for some time and try again later. But if you haven’t checked for the update at all, then you can do so by going to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update.
