LG is the latest manufacturer to announce a Chrome OS based device. However, they have not taken the common path and launched an inexpensive Chromebook. Rather they have launched a 21.5-inch all-in-one desktop named the Chromebase, which is quite a surprising move from LG.
The official launch of LG Chromebase is supposed to be during the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). However, LG has revealed the specifications of the device.
The most striking feature of the LG Chromebase (Model 22CV241) is its Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS 21.5-inch display that is packed in quite a chic design. However, from many angles we feel that the design seems to be inspired from the Apple iMac, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Coming to the other specifications, there is an unspecified Intel Celeron processor coupled with 2 Gb of RAM and 16 GB of solid state storage which is fairly sufficient to run Chrome OS.
The key Specifications and Features of the LG Chromebase are as given below:
- Processor: Intel® Celeron® CPU
- Operating System: Chrome OS
- Display: 21.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS
- Memory: 2 GB
- Storage: 16GB iSSD
- Ports: HDMI-in, USB 2.0 x3, USB 3.0 x1, LAN
- Accessories: Keyboard, Mouse, Cable Organizer
- Webcam: 1.3 M 720 HD
Although we are surprised to see Chrome OS in a desktop form factor and are not sure about its commercial viability in the consumer retail market, LG has different thoughts about the same. In a press statement announcing the launch of the LG Chromebase, Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT Business Division at LG Electronics said
“Simple to operate for all types of users, the award-winning LG Chromebase computer represents the successful combination of simplicity, power and great design. LG Chromebase is the wave of the future for desktops, expected to be widely adopted not only at home, but especially in schools, hotels, call centers and other business settings.”
