As promised by Oppo, CyanogenMod edition N1, the first retail smartphone with a community-driven and consumer-ready ROM is now shipping, just in time for the new year. The N1 CyanogenMod Limited Edition is available for purchase on the OppoStyle website and select retailers for $599.
Due to the holiday season, a few delays can be expected and deliveries may take longer than promised.
The developer friendly CyanogenMod Edition N1 is carrier unlocked and comes with an unlocked bootloader that makes it easier to install the firmware. It is the first device to come pre-loaded with Cyanogen 10.2 (based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean). Hardware-wise you get the following:
- A 5.9-inch 1080p display
- A 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor
- 2 GB of RAM
- 16 GB of storage
- A 3610 mAh battery
Other notable features include:
- 13 mega pixel camera which can swivel back and forth up to 206°
- A rear touch panel
The device however does not support 4G LTE, the only downside of the device. We hear that an update of CyanogenMod 11 based on Android 4.4 Kitkat will be made available for N1 soon.
The firmware is a favorite amongst hackers and techies who can play around with the settings to tweak performance and adjust privacy permission as per individual needs.
The company has released factory images of the 10.2 release software, to allow hackers and users safe recovery in case of any missteps. For advanced users the kernel source code and necessary files are also made available. The Company mentioned on their blog post “we are making available the accompanying source for not only the shipping 10.2 codebase, but the latest and greatest CM 11 code.”
CyanogenMod stated, “The CM Edition Oppo N1 is a milestone for us, and this launch is no minor achievement – it is the culmination of over four years of work by CM contributors and developers around the world.”
