Samsung is working on Galaxy Band, a fitness tracker, according to the latest gossips doing the round.
If these speculations are true, a fitness tracking wristband along the same lines are Nike Fuelband will make its debut at the Mobile World Congress to be held between February 24 and 27th in Barcelona.
Sources at Samsung claim that the focus of the wristband will on “health care”. It will have sensors on it that will measure motion, humidity, pressure, calories and movements. In addition it will also compute environmental data and location via GPS navigation. This data will be sent to the mobile device through Bluetooth. Lower-power Bluetooth connectivity will ensure that the wristband tracker connects with not just the devices from Samsung but also devices from other manufacturers.
There are also reports that the Galaxy Band will feature the voice control system of Galaxy Gear and obviously run on Android.
Galaxy Band is rumored to be integrated with S Health which is an app made for the Galaxy S4 which would enable the user to track his exercise and sleep patterns.
We expect the Galaxy Band to be sleek and smart looking and will be another addition to Samsung’s wearable devices offering. Galaxy Gear smart watch marked the entry of Samsung into the wearable devices market and was the first smart watch in the market. The smart watch design was indeed stylish but it lacked user experience and many felt that Samsung had rushed into the market only to get the first advantage.
We would like to add here that the U.S patent application filed a year back for a flexible screen device and which was published last week adds credibility to the rumor although there is no mention of any fitness gadget or other device.
More leaks are expected as the MWC event nears and we shall keep you updated on the happenings, as more information is available to us.
We are also expecting to see a line-up of wearable devices from Samsung in 2014.
