At the ongoing CES 2014 event, ASUS has unveiled three new smartphones, all belonging to the ZenFone family – the ASUS ZenFone 4, ASUS ZenFone 5 and ASUS ZenFone 6. An Intel Atom processor powers all the devices and the 4, 5 and 6 in the names of these phones stand for their screen sizes. Currently, all the three phones are coming with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system but ASUS has reported that the OS would be upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat. This family of ZenFone would be featuring the new ZenUI and they also offer dual-SIM functionality.

ASUS ZenFone 4

The ASUS ZenFone 4 is the most compact of all the three devices. The dimensions of the device are 124.4 x 61.4 x 11.2 mm and the weight of the device is merely 115 grams. It has a WVGA resolution of 480 x 800 but based on the old TN TFT display that would provide lower quality as compared to an IPS display.

Talking about the processor, the ASUS ZenFone 4 is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor, which is clocked at a frequency of 1.2 GHz. It will ship with 1 GB RAM, hence it should be able to run most of the important apps you would desire on an Android smartphone.

As far as the camera is considered, ASUS ZenFone 4 has a 5 MP rear facing camera. The bad thing about the ZenFone 4 is that it is low on battery capacity. The 1,170mAh battery would certainly not be able to deliver good results to users. To overcome this shortcoming, ASUS has made the battery removable so that you can carry along a spare battery if required. Various connectivity options include 3G with DC-HSPA, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi Direct and a microUSB slot.

ASUS ZenFone 4 comes in black, white, red, blue and gold colour variants.

ASUS ZenFone 5

The AUS ZenFone 5 has a standard 5-inch IPS capacitive LCD display screen with a resolution of 720p. The good thing is that it could be operated even with your gloves on and you can use any pen in your hand as the stylus for this device. The dimensions of the device are 148.2 x 72.8 x 10.3 mm and the weight of this device is a little higher than the ASUS ZenFone 4, at 140 grams.

The processing power granted to this smartphone is that of a dual core Intel Atom Z2580 processor, clocked at a frequency of 2.0 GHz, along with 1 GB of RAM.

Talking about the camera, the device packs an 8 MP camera, which takes good-enough-to-be-shared shots even in low light conditions. ASUS ZenFone 5 also packs a custom camera that allows you shoot spherical panoramas. Connectivity features are similar to the ASUS ZenFone 4 version.

On the battery side of the device, ASUS provides it with a 2050 mAh Li-Po battery. The colour variants that this device comes in are black, white red, gold and blue.

ASUS ZenFone 6

This version is an enhancement over the ASUS ZenFone 5 version and it can be actually called a phablet rather than a smartphone. The quality of the screen is the same as the ASUS ZenFone 5, with the same resolution of 720p.

Comparing the processing power of ASUS ZenFone 6 with that of ZenFone 5, the chipset and the processor are exactly same, the only thing that has changed is the RAM, with some devices shipping with 2 GB RAM (others with 1 GB depending on the model), as opposed to 1 GB in ASUS ZenFone 5. Also, the in-built storage capacity has been increased from 4 GB to 8 GB or 16 GB, depending on the model.

The camera of ASUS ZenFone 6 is the most powerful among the three devices discussed here. The rear facing 13 MP camera with an aperture of f/2.0 has the brand tag of PixelMaster. So, one can assume the quality of the photos shot by ASUS ZenFone 6 would be good.

The battery of ASUS ZenFone is certainly not disappointing – 3240 mAh, so you need not carry a spare battery along with you. The dimensions of the device are 166.9 x 84.3 9.9 mm and the weight of the device is 200 grams.
The pricing and availability of the smartphones have not been revealed by ASUS yet.
