As the Samsung Unpacked 5 event nears, rumours of the Galaxy S5 being unveiled at the MWC are getting more and more convincing. The latest information comes as an image of the box the new flagship will come in.
The specifications mentioned on the image are in line with what we have been hearing in the past few weeks. As per the image, you get the following on the new flagship from Samsung:
- A Snapdragon chipset with a quad-core CPU at 2.5GHz
- LTE Cat. 4 (150Mbps downlink)
- A 5.25″ QHD (2,560 x 1,600) display (The pixel density would get a push to 560ppi)
- 3GB RAM
- A 20 mega pixel camera
- Video capture at 1080p ( A bit disappointing as we were expecting a UHD )
- A 3,000mAh battery
- The device will run on Android 4.4 KitKat as expected
According to GSMArena, a likely PenTile Super AMOLED would have significant visual improvement in the device as compared to the current 5″ 440ppi screen.
In yet another report, The Korea Herald states that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will launch with a bezel-free display. They have cited industry sources for this piece of information. Apparently Samsung has been working on the bezel-free display technology since 2012.
The report further states that, the current four-layer setup featuring indium tin oxide will be replaced with a new display panel technology making the next-gen device much more slimmer than its predecessor. The new display technology will bring along with it an improved energy efficiency and viewing accuracy.
It is also widely speculated that the device will feature a fingerprint scanner with the fingerprint reader reportedly embedded in the display. The scanner will be available only at its bottom left and right sides. We can expect full screen panel support for fingerprint scanning in the second half of this year.
There is some chance that the leaked image of the box image might have been photo-shopped. All you can do right now all we can do is wait for the event as too much information seems to be floating around.
The Unpacked 5 event will be held at 20:20 CET on February 24 in Barcelona.
