Apple had a great start with the iPads, but newest reports say that will come to an end this year as cheaper Android tablets has threaten the sales of the Apple’s iPads. The reports started to float around after the research of IDC and they can be interpreted like good and bad news for the both sides of the story. Let me tell you why.
According to the report from the research firm IDC, in 2013 Android will outshine iOS and will raise market share up to 49 percent, while Apple will slip to 46 percent. Last year, Apple was on top with 51 percent and Android held the second position with 46 percent.
We can’t say that this is highly likely thing to happen but, the cheaper tablets like Google Nexus and Kindle Amazon Fire had really good reviews and grades and are more affordable then the iPads.
As the IDC report says, Apple’s going to keep their market share above the 40 percent mark at least until 2017. It predicts that Apple will control 43.5 percent of the market share despite the 46 percent of market share controlled by Android tablets. So how is even possible that this can be good news for Apple? – Simple. As Android is expected to be the greatest and the most popular tablet OS in the world, the market share will be divided between hundreds of companies. In the meantime, Apple will collect all the honey (profit) from its own slice of the cake. You know now why this is good news for the Apple fans and for the company itself.
IDC didn’t have good news for Windows though. They will have slight growth to 7 percent with their Windows 8 tablets and only 3 percent with their Windows RT tablets. So they have a lot of work to do if they want to be compatible with Apple and Google.
At the end, they added that the number of shipments of the tablets is expected to increase by 10.7 percent from 172.4 million to 190.9 million. As the popularity of the smaller tablets increases, IDC says that we can expect this numbers significantly rise to 350 million and more.
Assuming that this report will became a reality. By the end of 2017 we will be using tablets instead of personal computers or laptops. The era of tablets has begun and it’s conquering the world really fast.
