If you want a different tablet experience, this Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 can deliver an amazing performance and satisfy your needs better than every tablet out there. As of March 13 this year, it is more affordable because Amazon cut the prices of Wi-Fi and 4G versions. If you choose to buy it, here’s what you will enjoy in.
The design of this device is made to look like a perfect tablet. As a larger device than its predecessor the 7-inch version, Fire HD 8.9 better facilitates the new operating system. It weighs only 1.25 pounds and that is something that you can just wish for in a tablet, it’s like holding a paper. It has the following dimensions: height 9.4-iches, width 6.4 inches and it is 0.35-inch thin.
The tablet has a dark gray color with wide black strip on the back and given that, it looks like a perfectly designed device. In the top middle part you can notice the web camera with the almost invisible light sensor placed right next to the camera’s left side. The bezel is protected by plastic surface that covers it. On the bottom-middle edge you can see the perfectly placed Micro USB and HDMI ports, on the right there are a headphone jack, power button which is also used for the sleep feature and the volume stabilization button. Both of the power button and the volume rocker are perfectly designed which makes them hard to find if you don’t look very closely. Amazon included USB to USB cable which enables the charging while connected to a computer.
This 8.9-inch Kindle fire HD has an IPS screen which is equipped with 1920 x 1200-pixel resolution. It’s fully packed with pixels and the colors have a pretty high contrast look. But it has a slightly visible backlight when viewing some dark screens, though. The maximum brightness that can reach is 413 cd/m2 and maximum contrast ratio is 917:1. This performance puts Amazon’s tablet right behind the Apple’s iPad 3.
Amazon said they have combined the LCD and touch sensor into a single layer glass which decreases reflection, but there is no difference between the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and the other premium tablets at this point. The display has multitouch feature up to 10 fingers.
This tablet is equipped with dual core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor strengthened with 1GB of RAM, which makes this tablet more powerful than the 7-inch version. It comes with 16GB storage memory but the big minus is – although it’s running on Android it can’t access to the Google Play apps. It doesn’t include card slot for additional memory.
One of the greatest features of this tablet are the speakers. While playing games or watching some movies, they will deliver loud and clear sound that which is significantly better than the other tablets I’ve heard. It lacks bass, but it’s ideal when you listen the sound through larger speakers or earbuds.

At the end, from our point of view for this tablet, we packed pros and cons for this Kindle Fire HD 8.9:
- Pros: Beautiful bright HD screen, Fast 4G LTE, new better interface, beautiful design
- Cons: no SD slot, lack of features, not so great camera, doesn’t include secondary camera
This tablet is announced in September 2012 and has been launched in October 2012. It has an affordable price but it’s not all about that. It falls behind compared with the iPad or the Nexus 10. However, many users will find it quite fantastic.
