There have been unending rumors that Apple will soon release an iPad that will swipe Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 away. Indeed it’s true, after the successful release of the iPad series, then came the new iPad Mini. The iPad Mini is certainly an iPad and let’s not confuse ourselves on that. Before it was launched, it was expected to be better than its competitors but not the price. The price never went below $199 and had an introductory price of $269.
Well, knowing it’s an Apple device, we really couldn’t expect a lesser price on its devices. However, iPad Mini is no less than the larger series. It’s smaller but once felt and touched; you’ll know this small board-like device will meet your expectations. It is light and portable that it sold more than 100 million devices since it was launched.
The iPad Mini was released in two versions: one with a Wi-Fi only connection while the other one has the Wi-Fi and Cellular capabilities. Let’s find out if this device is worth an investment.
Color, Size and Weight
The iPad Mini retains its promise that users will never feel that it’s not an iPad. It is so light that no one will mind bringing it anywhere and it’s so thin that the users will think that they’re just reading a newspaper article. The two versions have the same size and build, it has been to estimate to measure 7.87 inches for the height and 5.3 inches wide. It’s very light which only weighs 0.68 pounds or as light as 308 grams.
As per Apple tradition, the iPad Mini is available in two elegant colors, the Black & Slate and White & Silver palette.
Display, Camera and Storage
Measured diagonally, the iPad Mini has a 7.9 inch screen which they claim to be better than the larger versions. But, some analysts say that they can still see the pixels of some texts but is way better and clearer than its brother iPads. It’s amazing how Apple thought of making it fingerprint-resistant by using oleophobic coating.
It has a rear camera with several features like Autofocus, Face Detection, Backside Illumination and many others. While the FaceTime camera has 1.2MP to capture just about the right images with a good light support.
The two versions are available in different storage capacities. The buyer can choose from stages ranging from 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, depending on the budget.
Processor: Good Performance?
The iPad Mini has the same processor with iPhone 4S, iPod Touch and iPad 2 which is the A5 processor. So, it is expected to deliver the same performance, processing power and features. Its processor is still a dual-core chip.
Impression on the iPad Mini
The iPad Mini is by far, the best iPad ever released not because of its features and performance but because of its size. More people are encouraged to purchase this for a better reading and surfing experience.
However, it doesn’t have NFC like the Nexus 7 and is slightly bigger in size than its competitors. Overall, it’s a good investment still and a good job for Apple.
