Remember when a Spanish retailer has announced that it will be the official carrier of the Firefox OS phones? – Well, that very same carrier announced they are out of stock or sold all the available phones. The name of the retailer is Geeksphone and today they officially have ran out of Keon and Peak. Those are the names of the phones, in case you didn’t know.
This wouldn’t be a big deal but the phones went on sales today and as it seems all the developers have no luck into snagging one of these two phones. This came out to be a really strange thing because the two phones were on sale couple of hours and suddenly “out of stock” was shown on the official Web site. There was no further explanation for this information only this message given by the Geeksphone. One spokeswoman coming from the retailer has told that they are currently out of stock for the both phones. As reported this situation occurred due to amazing demand. She added that they are expecting the sale to go on somewhere in the next couple of hours.
The first phone, Keon, has been sold very quickly but the other one, Peak, was available few more minutes longer. The Keon is more of a budget-oriented phone model which is equipped with a 3.5-inch screen with a 480 x 320 display resolution. This phone has a price tag of $119. And for this price, you will get versatile and light but very powerful device. It has all the proper hardware features for you to start and develop some software for the Firefox OS. Other than this, it’s a great fit for your daily tasks. The Peak is more expensive than this previous phone and in order to own it you need to pay $195. This phone is equipped with a 4.3-inch screen and has a 960 x 540 display resolution and it’s coming with multi-touch screen.
These two phones aren’t meant for all the consumers. They have been designed only for the developers who need some working phone models in order to test their applications meant for this Firefox mobile OS. All the other mainstream Mozilla OS phones will be manufactured by some other companies like Alcatel, ZTE, LG Electronics and Huawei. They are expected to come out sometime next year. Sony has announced that they are exploring an option for making this kind of phone for 2014.
The main goal for this Firefox OS is to offer several budget phones and some other devices that are scheduled for releasing for consumers in the developing markets. These Mozilla OS based phones can make some difference at the low-cost phone market.
