Both Xbox One and Playstation 4 are officially revealed and we just need to wait until the end of this year in order to purchase them. There will be numerous comparisons and reviews and I bet you will change your mind couple of times before you decide to buy one or another. Judging by the information gathered from both events, we decided to make our version of comparison.
Both gaming consoles are using almost the same hardware specs inside their bodies. The only difference is in the RAM type. The PS4 uses GDDR5 8GB RAM and the Xbox One uses 8GB DDR3 RAM. Maybe there will be no big difference in the performance between both RAM types but PS4’s RAM has a graphical optimization.
The GPU on the PS4 could perform 50% better than the Xbox One. When you put the pieces together with the faster graphic memory you will get a better gaming experience on the PS4. From what we could see at the official conference, Xbox One perhaps gave better real-time graphics. Nevertheless, keep in mind that we haven’t experienced any of the consoles and we don’t quite know what they’re truly capable of.
Both controllers have been redesigned and according to me, they look much better than their predecessors.
The PS4 controller includes a clickable touch pad, which will give developers better options when they design a game. On the front side of it, you can see the light bar which enables the motion control placed on the PS4. From here, the Eye camera tracks the controller position and does some adjustments during multiplayer gaming. For accomplishing this, Xbox One is using Kinect help and auto-tracks the person who holds the controller. PS4 controller has Share button, headphone jack and speaker.
For connecting the controller, Xbox One is using Wi-Fi Direct while PS4 is using Bluetooth 2.1. Xbox One leads in this round, because Wi-Fi Direct is using 250Mbps and Bluetooth 2.1 is using 3Mbps maximum speed. This performance is just on paper for now, but we will see how it will perform while playing a game.
Voice control and motion
The Xbox One will be “awake” all the time and you just need to say “Xbox On” and the machine will be ready for gaming. Singing in to your account has never been easier because Xbox one uses facial recognition to do that. Sony has announced that its camera will have the similar facial recognition feature. It doesn’t matter which console will perform better, navigating through your whole system just with your voice is something that takes you huge step into the future.
This new Kinect 2.0 will have a wider view of the field, will determine your heart rate and will track more bodies at once. It will keep better track of every individual. It’s too early to make predictions how the developers will use all of these great features that the Kinect controller has. However, it sounds like the Xbox One gamers will have a big advantage over the PS4. This gaming console from Sony will have its Move controller and a new stereo camera. There are still no details how they will perform with the system.
Price and availability
We can expect the Xbox One launch in November for a price of $499. The PS4 will be available on the market right before the holidays for $399. $100 is a notable difference, especially when you know that both companies are offering the same hardware specs. Plus, if you choose the PS4 over the Xbox One, in 2014 you will get the cloud gaming service. This will offer you a catalog of PS3 games which are compatible with PS4. As it seems, PlayStation 4 will be more worth the money and for now, because Microsoft has no future plans for its gaming console.
Playing used games is not offered by the Xbox One and it requires check-ins in order to play a game. This made most gamers angry and Sony has one point more here with not including this requirement in its console. PS4 users can play games offline as long as they like.
Microsoft has announced that when someone buys a game, only the publisher will have the ability to enable you to trade all of your games with some retailers. Xbox One was designed to let you give a game to your friends but again, this goes on the publisher’s shoulders. Sony didn’t set these restrictions and said that every gamer has a right over its game disc and he can resell it, lend it or he can even throw it away or keep it forever.
Maybe this is not what we expected, but we would have to choose from what we have at this point and you can notice it’s not that bad, after all. Although PS4 came out as the better console in this battle, let’s give Xbox a try and see which gaming experience we liked better.
