We haven’t seen planned outages lately but the Yahoo-based company, Flickr, will bring us back in time on Thursday. It was announced that this photo-sharing service will be offline for 6 hours for maintenance. This means that all the Flickr addicts must find another app to play with while this outage lasts. We can agree that this is an unusual way for declaring maintenance period but the company wanted to make sure its customers will be right here when it will be back online.
This was announced by Flickr on its official blog site saying that this site will be unavailable from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. PT on Thursday. It was said that this site is going offline for both mobile and web platforms. The blog post was written by Thea Lamkin, Flickr staff member. According to the blog post, the outage will be broader than mobile and web platforms. All other third-party platforms that are using Flickr’s photos through its app interface won’t work, also. Lamkin said that the call for Flickr API will result with this error: 105 Service currently unavailable. This code means that the site is down due to maintenance.
The web technology is really up to date these days and it’s hard to see planned outage if something isn’t “cooking” in the back. The web importance has reached a high level and it’s unusual to see such thing. Apple has done this in the past shutting its store and some major products were announced during the outage. Flickr has been redesigned earlier this year and it’s really hard to believe that something isn’t right with the interface and there is a long lasting problem for many companies. This includes software and hardware problems that are taking time to be fixed.
There must be some improvements but Yahoo and Flickr stayed really secretive about it not sharing details for this outage. If something major comes up, we will be the first to inform you.
For those who don’t know, Yahoo has bought Flickr and Tumblr. The company promised that both picture sharing platforms will work separately and they will try to make them perfect. Yahoo has made couple of redesigns on their pages and we have no idea what will occur when this outage ends.
Share with us in comments bellow your expectations after this outage. Will there be any interface changes or something else will be improved?
