When the first rumors about Samsung Galaxy Mega showed up I thought that Samsung will reconsider the things and leave this device for another time. I was almost sure that this will happen, when I saw several versions of its Galaxy S4 smartphone hitting the market because they already made the Galaxy line crowded enough. However, Samsung is always here to surprise us with their side of the story. This company has upgraded the Galaxy Family with another device this time a phablet called Galaxy Mega. This device was unveiled on Monday.
You can already get the point and the size from its name Mega. It includes many features that we already saw on the Galaxy S4 smartphone. It sports a 6.3-inch display which is the perfect dimension if you use your device for games, music, books and movies. This was confirmed by Samsung product marketing and planning manager Nick DiCarlo. When we compared it to the latest Galaxy S4 smartphone, we noticed that they share the same features. You will be able to customize your lock screen and access the settings right from the notification menu. Some other features which are included in this device are Air View and WatchON. I assume you’re familiar with these features and we don’t need to remind you about their function over and over again.
Multi Window is also included in this Samsung Galaxy Mega and allows you to use few apps at the same time on the display. This feature is possible due to its 6.3-inch screen that offers 1280 x 720p resolution. There are also ChatON for sharing your screen with other people and S Translator.
The main back camera comes with an 8-mpix sensor that has several built-in features. We saw that Samsung was focused on the camera features with its Galaxy S4 and we expected that this will happen with its next smartphones. This camera comes equipped with many shooting modes alongside Sound & Shoot and Panorama. It supports Story Album that creates quick album while you are on the go.
Galaxy Mega runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and under the hood, there are some impressive specs. This phablet is powered by a dual-core 1.7GHz processor along with 1.5GB of RAM. All buyers will be able to use its built-in 64GB of storage and if this is not enough for you, you can use the microSD card slot for upgrading this memory. Samsung included a removable 3,200 mAh battery that by all calculations will get you through the whole day without recharging.
Few protective additions are available for this phablet, like the S-View cover that is perfectly designed with a window to check battery life or answer incoming calls. It comes with a protective cover that protects the device from breaking when it falls down. Of course, you will be able to purchase some other cases which come separately and available in many colors.
If we compare this device with some other devices of this kind, Galaxy Mega stands for its name. It’s taller and wider than the Note 2’s and Galaxy S4’s 5.5-inch and 5-inch display, respectively. Its perfectly designed screen offers nice experience for watching videos or reading books. You might feel a little bit uncomfortable when you answer a call or sit while it’s in your pocket. It doesn’t include the S Pen which has been introduced with the Galaxy Note devices. Samsung offers it with Polaris White and Nova Black color options and Sprint, AT&T and US Cellular will be the official carriers of this device. AT&T has unveiled that users could buy this device starting Friday for $24 a month with its new Next Plan or for $149.99 with its 2-year arrangement.
We will do a full review when we test its performance until then share your thoughts about the Galaxy Mega in the comments section below.
