Alcatel decided to introduce some innovations when it comes to its new smartphones. Many of them will please both high-end phone fans and budget-smartphone seekers. All of the devices were released at this weeks’ IFA event in Berlin. This company has added 4 new models, which will upgrade its existing One Touch line: Idol Alpha, Idol Mini, Idol S, and One Touch Hero. Official details for the price or where we can see them available on retail shelves are still unknown but we know that the One Touch Hero and Idol Alpha will be the most expensive ones. Let’s break them down one by one:
We’ll start with the largest and the one we think would be the most popular high-end smartphone that will represent this new line. Alcatel didn’t left any wasted space including a 6-inch display that offers HD 1920 x 1080p resolution. The design is sleek with rounded edges and slightly curved body.
The Hero comes with features that are seen in all modern smartphones. It has wireless charging and you can mirror your smartphone’s screen on other connected device. It comes equipped with stylus that will give you an easier experience while drawing or writing.
It runs on Android 4.2 and comes with an amazing 3.400 mAh battery that will provide you with a standby time of 16.5 days while connected to 3G. Under the hood, the Hero is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz processor and comes in two models: 16GB or 8GB of storage capacity.
Our expectation for this model: could be available by the end of October and the probable price range $550 – $650 carrier unlocked.
OT Idol Alpha
This is the second high-end smartphone that comes from Alcatel. This smartphone is covered in metal and has a curved body featuring a 0.29-inch frame made of aluminum. The company did a great job with the matte finish on the device’s back. The first noticeable feature is the magnificent 4.7-inch LCD screen that offers 1280 x 720p resolution.
It doesn’t have the same features like the previous model but has some impressive internal specs. It runs on quad-core 1.2GHz processor and has 16GB of storage capacity. It’s equipped with a 2,000 mAh battery that will get you through 15 days on standby while 3G set to on. People can take amazing pictures with the 13-mpix camera included on this handset.
Our expectation: It could be available in Q4 of 2013 and will cost $450 – $550.
OT Alpha S
The first device of the low-end models is the One Touch Idol S. This smartphone has all the features which can be included in a mid-range device. It’s equipped with a 4.7-inch screen, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor alongside 4GB of storage capacity. The device is covered with metal and Alcatel included the same matte back cover touch on this device, as well. The smartphone runs on Android 4.2. and has an 8-mpix camera.
Our expectation: it could be available by the end of September with a probable price range of $250 – $300.
OT Alpha Mini
The smallest smartphone of this list is 5 inches tall and it’s equipped with a 4.3-inch screen that offers low-resolution. The phone could be perfect for the budget-smartphone seekers. It includes 512MB RAM, 1,700 mAh battery and a 5-mpix camera. Alcatel said this smartphone has a feature that is unique and it’s not included in the other smartphones. You can pick dual-SIM or single-SIM model, which is quite impressive for a budget phone. The dual-SIM version comes with 8GB of storage capacity and the single-SIM comes only with 4GB. The phone is made with metal back cover and comes in 4 color options: black, navy, pink and silver.
Our expectation: could go on sale by the end of September with a possible price tag of $150 – $200.
OT Idol X
The last in this list is another budget phone called One Touch Idol X. This smartphone has been already announced earlier in February at MWC event. We can fit it somewhere between the Idol S and Idol Alpha.
It has a 5-inch screen with a thin bezel, rubbery cover and it’s available in 5 colors. The phone is expected to be available after the end of IFA event.
