Sony recently unveiled the Sony Xperia Z1, a smartphone that was built on the lines of the original Xperia Z. The Sony Xperia Z1 replaced the Xperia Z as the new flagship device of the company.

The Sony Xperia Z1 on the other hand is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and is powered by a 2.2GHz Krait 400 quad-core processor, Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Xperia Z1 is also equipped with the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2.
WINNER – The Xperia Z1 is definitely faster.
The Sony Xperia Z runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box and the upgrade plan for 4.2 Jelly Bean is already in place. But there has been no official word from Sony as to how and when the Xperia Z will get the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.
The Sony Xperia Z1 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right from start. So consumers do not have to worry about updating their devices, not at least till Android 4.4 KitKat is out in the market.
WINNER – Xperia Z1 takes the win, at least for now.
The Sony Xperia Z comes with 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports storage expansion by up to 32GB. So at best, consumers can have a total storage space of 48GB.

The Sony Xperia Z1 has a 20.7MP with autofocus and LED flash. The camera has a sensor size of 1/2.3” and supports features like touch focus, face detection, image stabilization, HDR and panorama. The Xperia Z1 comes with a 2MP front facing camera.

This is one segment where the Sony Xperia Z1 has been greatly improved compared to the Xperia Z. The Sony Xperia Z has a decent non-removable Li-Ion 2330mAh battery. The device is expected to give 11 hours of talk time on 2G and 14 hours on 3G.
On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z1 has a massive non-removable Li-Ion 3000mah battery. The device is expected to give a talk time of 14 hours of talk time on 2G and 15 hours on 3G.

The dimensions of the Sony Xperia Z are 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm whereas the dimensions of the Sony Xperia Z1 are 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm. So it is quite clear that the Sony Xperia Z1 is a bit bigger than the Xperia Z.
The Sony Xperia Z weighs about 146 grams whereas the Sony Xperia Z1 weighs 170 grams. The Sony Xperia Z1 puts up considerable amount of extra weight, but the added battery justifies the same.
The battle between the Sony Xperia Z and the Xperia Z1 might have been interesting, but the results are already out. The Sony Xperia Z might have put up a good battle but there is no way it can keep up with the latest pieces of technologies used in the Xperia Z1.
The Xperia Z1 proves to be superior to the Xperia Z in almost every segment. It has a much faster processor, better GPU, much better camera and a greatly improved battery.
So if you have been looking out for a high-end smartphone and are confused between the Xperia Z and the Xperia Z1, then be sure to get the Xperia Z1.
