The Apple iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S all have a 4-inch LED-Backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a screen resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels and pixel density of 326 ppi.
The Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S both have an oleophobic coating and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
This is one segment where these three devices differ. The iPhone 5 is equipped with the Apple A6 chipset and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GPU and has 1GB of RAM.
The iPhone 5C is also equipped with the Apple A6 chipset and is powered by a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GPU and has 1GB of RAM.
The iPhone 5S is the most powerful out of the three and is equipped with the Apple A7 chipset. The device is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, PowerVR GPU and has 1GB of RAM.
The Apple iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S all run on the same operating system – Apple iOS 7. The iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S run on iOS 7 out of the box, but the iPhone 5 needs to be updated to the latest version.
The Apple iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S all come with 16 and 32GB of internal storage options. The iPhone 5 and 5S are also available in 64GB options.
None of these devices have microSD card support; hence storage expansion is not an option.
The Apple iPhone 5 has an 8MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash. The camera comes with features like Simultaneous HD Video and Image recording, panorama, HDR, Video stabilization and many more. The iPhone 5 also has a 1.2MP front facing camera for video calls etc.
The Apple iPhone 5C also has an 8MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 1.2MP secondary camera. The primary camera on the iPhone 5S offers the exact same features as the camera on the iPhone 5.
The Apple iPhone 5S has an 8MP primary camera, but is expected to perform much better than the camera present on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C. Yes, even the iPhone 5S camera provides all the features as the other two iPhones, but this one has a much better sensor size and pixel size. The iPhone 5S has 1/3” sensor size and a 1.5um pixel size. These specs allow the iPhone 5S to outperform the iPhone 5 and 5C. Lastly, the 5S also has a 1.2MP front facing camera.
The Apple iPhone 5 has a 1440mAh Li-Po battery, the iPhone 5C has a 1440mAh Li-Po battery and even the iPhone 5S has a 1440mAh Li-Po battery. Each of these iPhones has a non-removable battery, so swapping them afterwards won’t be an easy option.
But in spite of having identical batteries, the iPhone 5C and more importantly the iPhone 5S is expected to perform much better than the iPhone 5. On regular basis, the iPhone 5 battery gives 8 hours of talk time and up to 225 hours of standby time. The batteries on the new iPhones are expected to provide up to 10 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby time.
The dimensions of the iPhone 5 are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm; the dimensions of the iPhone 5C are 124.4 x 59.2 x 9mm and the dimensions of the iPhone 5S are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm.
The Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S both weight 112 grams whereas the iPhone 5C weighs about 132 grams.
The Apple iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S have a lot in common. They all have identical display, screen size, screen resolution and cameras. And if you compare the iPhone 5 with the iPhone 5S, you will see that they both even have the exact same weight, dimensions and battery.
But yes, the iPhone 5S is definitely superior; rather it is the most powerful iPhone that Apple has ever come up with. The Apple A7 chipset makes the device extremely fast and makes the iPhone 5 look ‘old and slow.’ The device is equipped with a fingerprint sensor, the first of its kind and allows consumers a level of security that was only available in notebook computers.
So if you are okay with spending some extra money to get the best out of the three, you should definitely go for the iPhone 5S. And this might sound a bit weird, but if you want to choose between the other two, then the iPhone 5 is also a very good option!
