The news of Blackberry’s plan to offer BBM for Android and iOS has been a subject of debates over the past few months. However, the speculations of whether or not it is a good move will soon be answered because BBM is expected to be opened for both iOS and Android-based smartphones on September 20, 2013. Regardless of this date’s validity, the consistent rumors of “BBM for all” could well mean that the happy day is near.
Isn’t It Exclusive?
Although there were alleged leaks about the open BBM being exclusively offered to Samsung users for a limited time, Blackberry clarified that it will be available for everyone. In a statement, Victoria Berry (Blackberry Communications Director) confirmed that no carrier or smartphone brand will have an exclusive access to the cross-platform BBM service. The company also reminded that the BBM for Android will be compatible only with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) devices and beyond.
What’s the Big Deal?
Research In Motion’s (RIM) decision to bring BBM onto the Android and iOS platforms came as a good news to most of us. It means that iPhone, Blackberry and Android users will now have a common communication app to send and receive information with. These include messages, images and videos, among other media types. There are so many FREE messaging and calling app these days that it is already hard to decide which one to join in. With BBM for Android and iOS, Blackberry is most likely to succeed in unifying all smartphone (and tablet) users into a single social ecosystem.
Can You Download the Leaked App?
If you have already done some research about the cross-platform BBM for Android and iOS, you may have already come across some leaked “.apk” files for installing the app on Android phones. While some these installers are plausibly legit, it is highly recommended that you wait for the app’s official release to prevent any untoward incidents caused by installing apps outside the Google Play Store. Moreover, the app would still remain useless until its activation.
To Install or Not to Install?
No matter where you are in the world, you may still have a lot of friends who are using Blackberry phones. Their number is expected to increase because of RIM’s consistent release of quality smartphones that rival those Android and Apple. The launch of BBM for Android and iOS will be an event to remember. Don’t forget to join the fun once the party starts.
