Today we compare the Apple iPhone 5S with the Samsung Galaxy S4 in a one on one battle of specs and features. The recently announced iPhone 5S takes on the standard Galaxy S4 (I9500).
There have been a number of posts comparing the Apple iPhone 5 with the Samsung Galaxy S4, but we all knew that this is not the real battle we wanted to see. The problem was that Samsung has already come up with the Galaxy S4, but Apple was still working on its new flagship device.
But finally, the iPhone 5S is here and we can now replace the iPhone 5 with the competitor that the Galaxy S4 has been waiting for. So let the battle begin.

The Apple iPhone 5S has a 4-inch LED-Backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display. The device has a screen resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels and pixel density of 326 ppi. The display has an oleophobic coating and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 441 ppi. The display on the smartphone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Apple iPhone 5S equipped with the latest chipset from the company, the Apple A7. The device is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, PowerVR GPU and has 1GB of RAM. The iPhone 5S is expected to be way faster than the current iPhone 5, clearly indicating that there is something really smooth and powerful under the hood.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is equipped with the Exynos 5 chipset. The device is powered by a 1.6GHz Cortex-A15 processor and a 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor, PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

The Apple iPhone 5S runs on the same operating system as every other iPhone – Apple iOS. To be more specific, the iPhone 5S will run on iOS 7 out of the box and future updates will not be a problem at all.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box and has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top of it. The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S4 is being gradually rolled out.

The Apple iPhone 5S comes with 16, 32 and 64 GB of internal storage options. But similar to every other iOS device, it does not have a microSD card slot, so storage expansion is not an option.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with 16, 32 and 64GB of internal storage, and also has a microSD card slot using which you can expand storage by up to 64GB. Hence storage expansion is an easy option and can be done as and when you wish.

The Apple iPhone 5S has an 8MP primary camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash, and a 1.2MP secondary camera. The primary camera on the device has a sensor size of 1/3” and pixel size of 1.5um. The camera comes equipped with a variety of useful features including simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, HDR, panorama and more.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera. The primary camera comes with features like autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, image stabilization, HDR and more.

The Apple iPhone 5S has a 1440mAh Li-Po battery. This might seem to be a very low value, but it is the same battery that was present on the iPhone 5. But due to other changes on the inside, the iPhone 5S battery is able to provide a better backup. As per the stats, the battery on the iPhone 5S is expected to provide up to 10 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 2600mAh Li-Ion battery. This battery is able to provide talk time of up to 17 hours on 3G and a stand by time of up to 370 hours.

The dimensions of the iPhone 5S are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm whereas the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 are 136.9 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm.

The Apple iPhone 5S weighs 112 grams whereas the Samsung Galaxy S4 weighs 130 grams.

The Apple iPhone 5S brings a number of new features and improved specs when compared to the iPhone 5. This also means that the Galaxy S4 now faces a tougher competition. But in the end, it’s all about preferences.
The Apple iPhone 5S is indeed an excellent device; it provides you with one of the highest levels of security using a fingerprint sensor that’s built right into the home button. It comes with all the goodness of the iPhone 5, but with some really good improvements (faster processor, better camera and battery backup).
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S4 provides you with the latest version of Android OS and is one of the best options for consumers looking out for a 5-inch smartphone. The device is fast and powerful, and with some tweaking here and there, it will be able to provide a much better battery backup as well.
