The Apple iPhone 5S is finally here and its time for the flagship model to go one on one against the Sony Xperia Z1. The iPhone 5S is the latest and best smartphone that the company has to offer, and the same is the case with the Sony Xperia Z1.
As a matter of fact, both these smartphones have been recently released in the market and will most probably be on the wishlist of consumers looking forward to get a new smartphone.
So today we compare the specs and features of these two next-gen flagship devices in an attempt to find out the better between the two. Are they both real competitor or have they been made for a different user types? Let us find out.

The Apple iPhone 5S has a 4-inch LED-Backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display. The device has a screen resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels and pixel density of 326 ppi. The display has an oleophobic coating and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The Sony Xperia Z1 has a 5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display with support for 16M colors. The display has a full HD screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and pixel density of 441 ppi. The Xperia Z1 has a Triluminous display that is made up of shatter proof and scratch resistant glass.

The Apple iPhone 5S equipped with the latest chipset from the company, the Apple A7. The device is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, PowerVR GPU and has 1GB of RAM. The iPhone 5S is expected to be way faster than the current iPhone 5, clearly indicating that there is something really smooth and powerful under the hood.
The Sony Xperia Z1 is one of the most powerful 5-inch smartphones available in the market today. The device is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and is powered by a 2.2GHz Krait 400 quad-core processor, Adreno 330 GPU and has 2GB of RAM. It also consists of the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 that adds to the overall quality and performance of the display.

The Apple iPhone 5S runs on the same operating system as every other iPhone – Apple iOS. To be more specific, the iPhone 5S will run on iOS 7 out of the box and future updates will not be a problem at all.
The Sony Xperia Z1 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right out of the box. Android 4.4 KitKat will not be out soon, but when it will be, the Sony Xperia Z1 will definitely be getting the update. But for now, you get to use the latest version of Android that Google has to offer.

The Apple iPhone 5S comes with 16, 32 and 64 GB of internal storage options. But similar to every other iOS device, it does not have a microSD card slot, so storage expansion is not an option.
The Sony Xperia Z1 comes with 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 64GB. So even though internal storage might not be enough, you can easily expand storage as and when you wish.

The Apple iPhone 5S has an 8MP primary camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash, and a 1.2MP secondary camera. The primary camera on the device has a sensor size of 1/3” and pixel size of 1.5um. The camera comes equipped with a variety of useful features including simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, HDR, panorama and more.
The Sony Xperia Z1 has a high performance 20.7MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash, and a 2MP front facing camera. The primary camera has a sensor size of 1/2.3” and supports number of features like touch focus, face detection, image stabilization, HDR and panorama.

The Apple iPhone 5S has a 1440mAh Li-Po battery. This might seem to be a very low value, but it is the same battery that was present on the iPhone 5. But due to other changes on the inside, the iPhone 5S battery is able to provide a better backup. As per the stats, the battery on the iPhone 5S is expected to provide up to 10 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby.
The Sony Xperia Z1 is equipped with a high capacity 3000mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery. So not only is the battery capacity more than double when compared to the iPhone 5S, but it is also almost 700mAh bigger than the battery present on the Xperia Z. This battery is expected to give almost 14 hours of talk time and 850 hours of stand by time.

The dimensions of the iPhone 5S are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm whereas the dimensions of the Sony Xperia Z1 are 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm.

The Apple iPhone 5S weighs 112 grams whereas the Sony Xperia Z1 weighs 170 grams.

The iPhone 5S and Xperia Z1 are both high-end smartphones, and they are also the current flagship devices of their respective companies. But to choose between these two smartphones, consumers won’t have a difficult time.
The main reason is because these two smartphones are made for different types of consumers. And of course, they both offer features that are unique and will attract consumers all around the globe.
The Apple iPhone 5S features a fingerprint sensor, the first of its kind and a feature that will provide an extremely high level of security to owners. On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z1 is dust proof and water proof, meaning that consumers can take the device with them wherever they go – beach, swimming pool, office canteen whatever be it.
But the two most important differences between the iPhone 5S and Xperia Z1 are that they both run on different operating systems and fall under different screen segments.
Hence if you want a smartphone that fits perfectly in your hands, gives you an extremely high level of security and if you are well versed with the Apple eco-system, then the iPhone 5S is the device for you.
But if you prefer to have a smartphone that’s rough and tough, has a big 5-inch display along with an excellent camera, then the Xperia Z1 is the answer.
