A few days ago, Microsoft Corporation announced that it will be holding an event in New York City on Monday. As critics and media gear up for the upcoming occasion, it is expected that Microsoft will be launching their new Surface tablet computers that is to compete with their rivals, the Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad Mini. Customers and loyal Microsoft fans can only wait for the upcoming day.
It is still a month before the mentioned corporation will release new information about their new Windows 8 operating system and the updates that they will be planning to develop. The specific date is on October 17 of this year. According to Microsoft, the upgraded Windows 8.1 is going to be available for gadgets with smaller touch screen since the previous version is only limited to devices which have 10 to 12 inches of screen displays. For a long time, smaller tablets have become the trend since they are cheaper and easier to carry anywhere.
There have been a lot of talks and discussion about it but the future Surface tablets could have the possibility to be lighter and thinner than its predecessor. Thanks to a new processing chip, Haswell, the new Surface will consume less energy and need no fan. This specific chip was already used by other companies such as Apple, Dell, as well as Samsung. An example is Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air which now has 12 hours of battery use compared to its previous 7 hours of battery life.
It was last October when Microsoft started selling Surface tablets but it is undeniable that their sales came in slower than what they expected. In the first three months of 2013, the company shipped a maximum of 1 million tablets. This sales number includes about 260,000 of the Surface RT versions and 750,000 of the Pro versions. First quarter sales were acceptable but by the second quarter, Microsoft’s sales went even lower. Considering the reviews made by experts and critics, it is also a given fact that the first generation of Surface tablets wasn’t that good compared to its competitors.
A few months back, Microsoft even cut the prices of their old tablet computers to make it cheaper. This is a sign that a new product is going to be unveiled sooner or later by the said company. With a lot of competitors roaming around the technological market, we can only wait if the new model of Microsoft Surface will peak higher than its predecessor.
