For the first time ever, Sony is going to be the first brand that will offer camcorders that, even with its consumer-grade level, will still have the ability to capture images four times better than today’s high-end picture taking gadgets. In the coming October, the said company will be making the Sony Handycam FDR-AX1 available in the market.

In the industry where new gadgets come out on a regular basis, Sony is trying to make the 4K technology a new trend in capturing videos by making the new Handycam FDR-AX1 support the latest 4K Ultra HD innovation. Given that television boxes which can showcase 4K photos are also starting to make their way onto the popular market, it will not be too long before the 4K technology becomes the future innovation in making videos.

The Sony Handycam FDR-AX1 can take a picture with 3840 pixels by 2160 pixels, a dimension twice the size of the usual HD photo. This means that higher resolution HD photo before can have the potential to look better and have exceptional and sharper detail. It certainly is an improvement from the standard appearance of photographic images which can now get as attractive as we want to.

Meanwhile, this camera will record videos with the file type of XAVC S which is loosely designed from MPEG4 AVC/H.264. This format is exclusive to Sony because the basic AVCHD type still does not work on the Handycam FDR-AX1 although it will only be until the middle of 2014. Watching the video footages on larger screen will also be easier because the camcorder comes with an HDMI 2.0 cable, the first HDMI format to support 4K, which can be connected to compatible devices.

Details of the photos taken present an incredible detail even if the images were zoomed at the maximum level. When the Handycam FDR-AX1 goes on sale, it will cost at least $4500 which is not a bargain deal. However, considering the $2800 to $6000 prices that surround the standard high-end camcorders which also have the ability to shoot high definition images, the Handycam’s price is not as expensive as it seems.
