NBCUniversal (NBCU) is losing one of its executives soon. A memo circulating around the company announced that Lauren Zalaznick is leaving her work after 12 years of serving NBCU. The departing exec has been notably working for the media giant’s expansion into different digital arenas. However, there is still no new job waiting for the veteran and former high-profile woman exec from NBCU. But in a short announcement made by company CEO Steve Burke, Zalanick will still be connected with the NBCU by being consulted for technology marketplace trends and digital media content.
Yahoo Media: Next Destination for Lauren Zalaznick?
After spending 12 years with NBCU, Zalaznick might be interested in taking over a vacant position at the head office of the media unit of Yahoo. Different speculations about her possible Yahoo stint came out after the news about her NBCU departure went out. However, Yahoo has not contacted Zalaznick for the job position according to sources. Various web content companies such as Yahoo would be a great destination for Zalaznick as she has been known as one of the most interesting top media heads from NBCU. She has also earn a pretty impressive reputation in the Silicon Valley as she has made various efforts in reaching out to the digital digerati. She was even interviewed for and offered a seat at the Twitter board but the spot eventually landed to Peter Chernin.
Impressive Background Behind Zalaznick to Attract Big Media Outfits
Zalaznick’s first work as an indie feature film producer brought her to the NBCU after its acquisition of Vivendi Universal in 2004. She headed the Brave cable network and produced shows that became pop culture icons and hits. She was also placed into different departments such as the Oxygen cable network, iVillage and Telemundo to name a few. She was given the position of EVP of NBCUniversal earlier this year and became busy particularly with monetization, digital, innovation and emerging technology. She recently launched NBCU’s first digital council and data science team that helped in coordinating the company’s digital strategy. The company was really saddened by her resignation because of her notable and important contributions made to NBCU. However, the company also stated that they must move on. Zalaznick’s staff left at the company will be disseminated into different departments.
