When it comes in tablets, computer brands are now also developing their own versions of the said gadget for consumers who want to try not just the usual models. Just a few days ago, Asus and Acer introduced their new tablets which are the Transformer Book Trio and Iconia Tab A3 respectively. This is only a preliminary review since both companies have not yet released the full specifications of their new gadgets. However, this comparison will be useful in telling what consumers can expect in these new devices.
Design and Build
The Asus Transformer Book Trio is built with 304.9 x 193.8 x 9.7 mm of dimensions and 700 g of weight. Diagonally, it is 11.6 inches which means that it will have a considerably big display. It has its own tablet dock which will have an increased weight of 300 g while the dimensions will become about 305 x 194 x 13 mm. It will have an HDMI port and will be available in black color.
The Acer Iconia Tab A3, alternatively, will have 10.1 inches of a diagonal physical size. Although there is no official information yet about the dimensions and weight of this device, consumers can expect that it will have the measurements of a standard tablet although this device also comes with a monitor where it can attach itself and become a laptop. It will be available in silver color.
In terms of the display, the Transformer Book Trio by Asus will have an IPS LCD technology with an LED backlight and 16M color display. It is both capacitive, multi-touch and bearing its own light sensors. It will showcase a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density of 190 ppi.
On the other hand, the Iconia Tab A3 by Acer will also be sporting an IPS LCD technology. It is capacitive, multi-touch and also has its own integrated light sensors. The screen resolution will be a little smaller at 1280 x 800 pixels with a pixel density of 149 ppi.
Operating System and Hardware
The Asus Transformer Book Trio will run an Android Jelly Bean version 4.2, Windows 8 operating system and Candybar form factor. Hardware wise, it will exhibit an Intel Atom Z2760 chipset along with a Dual core 1600 MHz processor and a graphical interface incorporated in it. The system memory will contain 2GB RAM 1066 MHz/LPDDR2 while internal storage will come at a maximum of 1TB. There will be a memory card slot compatible with MicroSD and MicroSDHC.
On the other hand, the Acer Iconia Tab A3 will be running an operating system by Android Jelly Bean version 4.2 and form factor by Candy bar. Meanwhile, it will have a specific Quad-core 1.2 GHz chipset which will work with a Quad core 1200 MHz ARM Cortex-A7 central processing unit and an integrated graphical interface on its own. This tablet will contain an Internal storage of 16GB and a memory card slot compatible with MicroSD and MicroSDHC with a maximum size of 32GB.
Camera, Multimedia and Connectivity
The Transformer Book Trio by Asus will showcase an average resolution of 5MP for its primary camera which will have its own auto focus. There will also be a camcorder which will capture video at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 which means a full 1080p HD quality. The secondary camera can also shoot video but only at a resolution of 1280 x 720 or 720p HD quality. There are also multimedia features which include an MP3 music player and video playback which supports MPEG4, H.263 and H.264 file types. Also, this tablet features GPS positioning, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
There is not much difference compared with Acer Iconia Tab A3 which has a primary camera that also exhibits 5MP and takes photos at a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels except that the Transformer Book Trio has Windows 8 in it. It features Geo-tagging while also having its own camcorder. This handset also has multimedia options that users can explore which includes an MP3 music player and video playback that is compatible with MPEG4, H.263 and H.264 file formats. This tablet also features Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity and GPS positioning.
The Asus Transformer Book Trio has a bigger display with a higher resolution and pixel density. It presents a credible hardware specification along with camera features which can be really functional for avid mobile photographers. On the other hand, the Acer Iconia Tab A3 has a smaller screen and lower resolution when it comes to its display specifications. Although, it presents a storage expansion that is much larger so users are able to store more data on their tablets.
There is still a lot of information that Asus as well as Acer will release about their new tablets and these specifications can still change. So far, both devices present respectable specifications and can definitely compete against other brands. Regardless of the price, which of these two will you buy?
