There was a time when portable DVD players are just being introduced to the worldwide consumers of the gadget market. It leads to a period wherein watching movies or even television series can be done anytime and anywhere. At present, there are newer and more advanced gadgets that are being released and though we might think that the era of the portable DVD player is over, it’s actually just beginning again. This comparative evaluation will tackle two of the chart-topping DVD players which are the Philips PD9000/37 and Sylvania SDVD9000B2 that consumers still check out and buy until today. The following information will tell readers the many reasons why.

Portable DVD Players’ Comparison: Philips PD9000/37 VS Sylvania SDVD9000B2

Watching Movies On the Go

Portable DVD Players’ Comparison: Philips PD9000/37 VS Sylvania SDVD9000B2The Philips PD9000/37 is a DVD player which users can take anywhere they like and use for watching movies or television series. The 5-hour battery life can provide for at least three movies with an average length. It also has a big screen feature which offers a decent viewing experience that users will not easily forget. In terms of the physical design, this player presents a good-looking but a durable aura at the same time. Although it is heavier than its rival product, it’s still very portable. On the other hand, this player is also compatible with the standard disc formats available in the market. However, Philips’ greatest feature is probably the fact that was able to incorporate DivX support which let the users watch videos encoded in the said technology. These videos are usually the ones that are downloaded from the internet.

Portable, Sleek and Swiveling

Portable DVD Players’ Comparison: Philips PD9000/37 VS Sylvania SDVD9000B2The Sylvania SDVD9000B2, on the other hand, is a similar portable device that plays a wide range of CD and DVD disc formats. It has a screen size of 9 inches which is made even better with the high definition features that it offers on both audio output and visual display – even though the device is physically smaller than its Philip counterpart. Meanwhile, the one good thing about this portable player is that it has a technical feature that enables its own monitor to swivel at a complete 360 degrees. This makes the device less bulky to hold especially when being used while travelling. Appropriately enough, the said feature received mostly favorable reviews from experts as well as costumers. To top that, the sleek black color and smooth finish of this device also adds a premium feel and impressive that the costumers will definitely appreciate.

Remote Control Problems

Portable DVD Players’ Comparison: Philips PD9000/37 VS Sylvania SDVD9000B2If a remote control is included in any device, people usually assume that it has all the basic buttons they need to control and navigate the device. Unfortunately for the Philips PD9000/37, it has its own remote control but it has no power button and users have to go through a lot of steps just to switch aspect ratio. It seems that the accessory made for a more convenient viewing is not convenient at all. On the other hand, some units of this portable player also have defects that only let owners use it for less than one year. More than a lot of consumer reviews are saying that the CD reader can be easily broken.

More Audio Improvement

The first thing that the Sylvania SDVD9000B2 portable DVD player should definitely improve on is its sound quality. According to experts, there are times that the volume is too low even when it is set at the maximum range. Perhaps the manufacturer can make a standard change in their future products that does not let file types influence the volume’s settings. In addition, the cable included for AV is only 6 inches long. This is really short considering the other features of this product has more than a lot to offer.

On the other hand, the Sylvania SDVD9000B2 is available at $79.99 on Amazon and $80.53 on eBay. Compared to its rival, this price range is a slightly higher but it can still be affordable for some consumers. It just depends on them if they are willing to spend that much money for a DVD player.

The former has a wider support when it comes to compatible file types and a cheaper price that can attract more budget cognizant consumers.
