We have some really interesting news for you today – Chinese smartphone manufacturer UMI has officially unveiled the first ever ‘true octa-core chipset’ powered smartphone. The smartphone has been named as the UMI X2S and happens to be successor to the UMI X2.
We all were excited to see what Samsung brings to the table with the Samsung Galaxy S5. It was said that the Korean smartphone manufacturer has been working on its new Exynos 6 chipset, the evolution of Exynos 5 and the first true octa-core chipset from Samsung. But it so happens that Chinese smartphone manufacturer UMI and chipset manufacturer MediaTek have taken away this opportunity from Samsung.
The UMI X2S is a 5-inch smartphone that is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 chipset. The MT6592 chipset is equipped with a true octa-core Cortex-A7 1.5GHz processor and has 2GB of RAM. We do not have the official details about the GPU on the chipset, but the benchmark results indicate that it used the Mali-450 GPU.
Considering all the other specs present on the device, the UMI X2S is definitely a powerful smartphone. By the way, the device was unveiled at the Autumn Edition of Hong Kong Electronics Fair. As mentioned earlier, the UMI X2S has a 5-inch full HD touchscreen display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The device is equipped with the MediaTek MT6592 chipset and is also expected to be 4G LTE-enabled, since this the chipset on the device has support for the same.
Other important specs and features include 32GB of internal storage, 13MP primary camera with Sony lens and NFC. We will update you with more details about this smartphone once we get our hands on some new and interesting information.
But for now, there are some things that you need to know. Most importantly, the octa-core chipset has 8 Cortex-A7 cores. So the speed and performance of this device is expected to be at least as good as the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset. You can expect the device to be fast, but don’t expect it to be out of the world.
The good part is that the UMI X2S is expected to be priced somewhere between $250 to $350. But the bad part is that the smartphone is expected to be available only in India and China. You can always import one if you are really interested, but you will have to wait for some time. Because the official availability date is not out yet.
