Today we compare the specs and features of the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Nokia Lumia 1020 in a one on one battle. Two of the best Windows smart devices battle it out in an attempt to find the better between the two.

In simple words, the flagship phablet of Nokia goes head to head against the flagship smartphone of Nokia. There has been a considerable time gap between these two devices, and we now want to see whether the Lumia 1020 will be able to put up a fight against the Lumia 1520 or has Nokia taken the Lumia 1520 to an entire new level where no other Nokia Lumia smartphone can compete against it.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a 6-inch full HD ClearBlack IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display. The display on the Lumia 1520 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and comes with a number of added features including High Brightness Mode, Sunlight readability, Super sensitive touch and more. The phablet has a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density of 367 ppi (pixel per inch).

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has a 4.5-inch HD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display. The device has a display resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels with a pixel density of 332 ppi. The display on the device is of PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack type and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the best in the market today.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. The Lumia 1520 is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Krait 400 processor, Adreno 330 GPU and has 2GB of RAM.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has the Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset. The device is powered by a 1.5 GHz Krait dual-core processor, Adreno 225 GPU and has 2 GB of RAM.

WINNER – Nokia Lumia 1520

The Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Lumia 1520 both run on Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system. But the Lumia 1520 runs on Windows Phone 8 Amber out of the box, the OS version with all the latest updates whereas the Lumia 1020 will have to wait for some time in order to get the update.
Also, the Lumia 1520 has a 6-inch 1080p display that allows the OS to display large Tiles and make the best use of the screen real estate available.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with 32GB of internal storage which should be good enough for a majority of consumers. And in order to ensure that consumers do not have problems, the phablet has a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 64GB. So you can have a maximum storage space of 96GB.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 also has an in-built storage space of 32GB, there is no other option available here as well. But unlike the Lumia 1520, the Nokia Lumia 1020 does not have a microSD card slot, so storage expansion is not possible. So right from the time you buy the device, you only have and will have 32GB of storage space.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a 20MP PureView primary camera and a 1.2MP secondary camera. This camera comes loaded with features including Carl Zeiss lens, Optical Image Stabilization, autofocus and dual-LED flash. The primary camera supports 1080p video recording and the front camera supports 720p video recording.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has a 41MP primary camera, similar to the high performance camera present on the Nokia 808 PureView. This camera is equipped with Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization, autofocus, Xenon and LED flash. This primary camera allows you to capture images at a resolution of 7152 x 5368 pixels, as well as 1080p videos with 4X lossless digital zoom. The Lumia 1020 also has with a 1.2MP front facing camera.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is also equipped with a non-removable high capacity Li-Ion 3400mAh battery. The Lumia 1520 battery is expected to give up to 28 hours of talk time on 2G and up to 25 hours of talk time on 3G. You can also expect a total standby time of up to 768 hours.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has a standard capacity 2000 Li-Ion mAh battery. The battery is non-removable and is expected to give a talk time of up to 19 hours on 2G and 13 hours on 3G. The 2000mAh battery of the Lumia 1020 doesn’t stand a chance against the massive 3400mAh battery on the Lumia 1520.

The dimensions of the Nokia Lumia 1520 are 162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7 mm and the device weighs about 209 grams. The dimensions of the Nokia Lumia 1020 are 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm and the device weighs about 158 grams.

So in spite of having a much higher capacity battery and being bigger in form factor, the Lumia 1520 manages to stay slimmer than the Lumia 1020. But on the other hand, the Lumia 1020 is still very much lighter than the 6-inch phablet. We do not want to judge the winner here because consumers have their own preferences when it comes to weight and dimensions.


We have a clear winner here – Nokia Lumia 1520! The new phablet from Nokia comes loaded with every feature desired by Nokia fans and consumers and there is hardly any room for error. The Lumia 1520 is the one device that can help you do almost everything you want.

But yes, there are some points that we need to consider. If you are more interested in choosing a smartphone that’s small in size so that it can easily fit in your pocket, light in weight so that it feels comfortable in your hands and has a killer camera so that even the best of competitors including the Lumia 1520 stand no chance, then the Lumia 1020 is the smartphone for you.

But we choose Lumia 1520 to be winner because of many different points. Most importantly, the Lumia 1520 has a full HD display and a quad-core chipset that has found no rival yet. The phablet is equipped with a gigantic battery and still has the 20MP primary camera. This camera might not be able to compete against the 41MP camera on the Lumia 1020, but can definitely take on any other smartphone camera.
