Comcast Is Offering A Netflix-Like Service With An HBO Bundle

Netflix had always been the go-to of people whenever they cut their cable cords. It offers streaming of movies, television series and other multimedia materials which members can watch anytime and anywhere. Just recently, Comcast announced that it will also be having the same streaming service which will include one of the most popular channels in the United States. Is this reasonable?

Features And Price

According to DSLReports, which is an online technology news website, Comcast’s new service that its loyal customers can avail of is called the Internet Plus. It has a premium HBO as well as HBO GO channels together with a standard television package. In addition to that, it also has a 25Mbps broadband internet connection and XFINITY Streampix. XFINITY Streampix is the specific movie and television streaming service which people have been comparing with the media genius which is Netflix.

This information also includes the price of the multimedia bundle when it becomes available. According to the same online technology news website, Comcast is making a 12-month promotion which will offer a cheaper price when consumers avail at the specific period of time. The company will be asking for a starting price of $40 to $50 per month at the promotion period. However, when it expires, the price will increase to $70 to $80 per month.

Consumer Response

The Internet Plus is directly aimed to rival Netflix since it is still one of the most popular streaming services not only in the United States but also in the world. However, Comcast also has the monopoly when it comes to some places like Portland and San Francisco as the sole provider of broadband access.

In terms of the consumer response, not all were actually happy about this new bundle. There is a chance that if you already have a broadband internet connection, you are already paying $30 to $40. This only equates the 25 Mbps speed that the Internet Plus is offering. However, it is possible that the $10 difference can justify the additional standard television package which includes at least 45 channels plus the HBO bundle – which can be accessed on your home theater as well as mobile devices.

The previous statement could have convinced some people. Unfortunately, what the consumers did not specifically like about the Comcast service is the fact that it will increase its price after the promotion period. The $70 per month just sounds too expensive and even if the consumer cuts his or her cable to avail this. There is a big chance that he or she will get it back again after one year. Most people are saying that it is only the company’s way to attract users to upgrade to more expensive bundles.
